Despite many misconceptions, historically real estate has held its value through downturns in the economy better than holdings in the stock market. According to Mark Hulbert, during the course of 19 bear markets over the last 100 years, the 2008 crisis was one of the only times that property investments took a hit as hard as the stock market.
The great recession may still feel fresh to many, however, 10 years have passed and there is speculation of another downturn based on historical cycles. Yet, investing in real estate still offers less risk and greater security.
